Where we are on the renovation for the new ministry as of May 25th:
May proved to be the seminal month for completing many of the action items to get the renovation in the hands of the contractor and on the road to HAPPENING!
Here are a few of the key events:
-
The construction bid from Stonybrook Homes came in with a host of supplier discounts and pro-bono work commitments. This is truly amazing and we thank the Lord for watching over all of these people and their believing in our new ministry. The Stonybrook Homes President, Kyle Simons, joined our ministry efforts wholeheartedly and has been responsive and compassionate from our first meeting. The bid is $81,800 and is just over half of the up-to amount of $150,000 the congregation approved in February.
-
Additional good news is that after consideration for extra costs of doing a separate project and its own effort to refurbish the administrative office, we asked the contractor if he could roll that into this project. He did and basically the identifiable additional cost is for cabinetry. Demolition, disposal, finish carpetry, etc. was just rolled in. Council approved this in their May meeting.
-
The bid includes updating the entire second floor for electrical updates needed for inspection approval in the Phase 2 additional bedrooms.
-
The bid also includes custom egress windows in all bedrooms. These windows are custom designed and built by a local company Advanced Window Products. They have also offered discounts. They are the same company who provided the most recent upgrade of windows on the second floor.
-
The heavy items from the second floor, primarily music and archive file cabinets and music equipment, were moved to the nursery - new music/archive office - by professional movers on May 14th. The second floor retained some furnishings that can be used for the new apartment or future bedrooms iin Phase 2. The piano is also staying upstairs for now as it may be used in a bonus common room in Phase 1 or 2. This is TBD. No longer needed or used items (with lots of dust accumulated on them) were disposed of or will be soon.
-
Financing for the project and construction contract approval were given by E&M and Council. Contract is close to being signed and sent to contractor.
-
We are currently considering all the insurance provisions and implications for this project prior to signing.
-
With the contract and deposit in hand to order various contruction supplies, e.g. custom egress windows, plumbing, bathrooms fixtures, etc, the contractor will proceed to acquire the necessary permits with Salt Lake City for the project.
