Pastor Christine comes to us out of retirement to serve as a “bridge” during our period of transition between pastors. She has lived in the Salt Lake Valley since the summer of 2015 when she was called to serve St. Matthew’s in Taylorsville as a “redeveloper.” Pastor Christine, or PC as she is sometimes known as, is a lifelong Lutheran originally from San Diego, California.
As a lay leader she spent a lifetime being shaped to be a pastor. She served in many roles in the church as a lector, worship assistant, middle school Sunday school teacher, contemplative prayer partner, women’s circle leader, pre-confirmation teacher, adult education facilitator and more. Eventually, God called her to ordained ministry which was not an easy road later in life.
PC completed her Associate of Arts degree in Social Science at San Diego Mesa College while working nights at Rady Children’s Hospital. She moved to Thousand Oaks, lived in the residence hall with three 21-year-olds and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from California Lutheran University. Finally, she received her Master of Divinity from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley as a resident student. Pastor Christine completed her internship with New City Parish at Angelica Lutheran Church in Los Angeles and Clinical Pastoral Education at Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
In concurrence while serving as a bridge pastor, PC is a Transition Coach for the Rocky Mountain Synod. She works closely with the Office of the Bishop and several congregations in the synod who are in the transition process. She also serves as a Convocator at California Lutheran University, is the secretary on the Advisory Board for PLTS, and is on the board for Crossroads here in Salt Lake City. Pastor is a trained facilitator with Prepare and Enrich to prepare couples for marriage or assist couples desiring to improve their relationship. She has trained lay leaders in congregations around the synod to be preachers and caring ministers. By March of 2025, she will have completed the training for the Interim Ministry.
On a more personal note, Pastor has two adult children and her fur baby, Glory. Robert lives in Hereford, Arizona where he likes to brew beer and work on the house he recently bought. Kimberly lives in Seattle and works in the food service industry which leaves her free time to travel and be with friends. Glory is the best companion for a busy pastor and has been part of the family since May 2021.
Pastor Christine feels that it is important to live a joyful life, to do the things that bring joy. The gifts she brings to Mt. Tabor at this time will bring joy as we travel the road of transition together.
