“Art of the annunciation: reflections on the meeting of divine and human”
December 3 at 9:15am East classroom
John Carey, presenter

In the gospel of Luke, a seminal event occurred : the angel Gabriel came to Mary and announced that she would become pregnant by the Holy Spirit, and that her son would be the chosen one- we all know the story. Of note no other gospel describes this narrative in the clarity provided by Luke . Matthew frames it in a much different way and very briefly . This particular event has been a popular theme throughout the history of art, especially in the Renaissance. The depictions of Mary display a variety of reactions and different interpretations by the artists through time. The Annunciation is  not only is the origin event of Jesus as a human (incarnation ) but also introduces a theme common in the ancient world, the virgin birth. Please join John in a presentation December 3 showing some of the most  illustrative paintings of the Annunciation.

Do you have an unused flat-panel monitor or TV? If so, we are interested in replacing the monitor in the east classroom with a larger monitor and would be willing to take over some unused technology. The current monitor is in the 28- to 30-inch class (measured diagonally) and moving up to the 36- to 40-inch class be helpful for both adult education and council meetings.
