New Ministry Team Update

It is a year now since the New Ministry Team started meeting to advance the visioning for Mount Tabor.

To refresh memories, Tabor started in the Fall of 2022 with some workshops on Vital-Right Shaped Ministry and engaged with Synod Pastor Dana Peterson to give input as a congregation on what our values, mission and vision looks like and where a discovery journey might take us. To further that beginning, Pr. David enlisted a visioning team that met for a year to hone our brainstorming ideas and shape it into a vision we call the “Ministries of People and Place”.

At the conclusion of the visioning team, we formed the New Ministry Team (NMT) to define and execute a strategy for what this could mean for Tabor and what new ministries would become the foundational basis of this new vision.

And now we are here. On Reformation Sunday we handed out brochures to communicate what this ministry of people and place is becoming. Our ministries are defined by finding opportunities to fully engage the church building in service to the greater community and its people suffering from addiction, hunger and homelessness. Some of our ministries outside of our building are already named and up-and-running, like Dinner at Vinny’s, sorting food at the Food Bank and collecting diapers and food for Crossroads. We have for many years welcomed and provided a safe place for recovery and support group meetings. Now through our new ministry efforts, we are adding hosting ministries in our building with the distribution of Senior Food Boxes once a month and currently in process, a shelter for homeless families in the Family Promise model slated for our upstairs.

We are grateful for all the volunteer hours from dedicated Tabor members to embrace these new ministries both in the vision work and in the effort it takes to operate these on-going ministries serving and loving our neighbors as ourselves.

Lord of all, we trust your vision for our sacred spaces and know it is bigger than we can yet imagine.
