Dear friends and supporters of Crossroads Urban Center,

I hope everyone receiving this email is doing well as we head into the holiday season. This month's email update from Crossroads Urban Center is highlighting six things we are grateful for this month:

1. Everyone who donated clothing and helped circulate our job listings to good people so that we can reopen our thrift store 
2. The many people who showed up to volunteer or drop off donations at one of our food pantries during the government shutdown 
3. The amazing people at the Caputo Foundation who have volunteered to match up to $20,000 in donations to Crossroads between now and December 2,
4. Harmons for once again creating the Give A Gobble Program to support our Thanksgiving Giveaway
5. The hundreds of people who have already committed to volunteer at our Thanksgiving Food Giveaway that is taking place next week where we plan to serve more than 3,000 families, and,
6. All of the clergy and lay people who have helped FACE Hunger and Homelessness to raise concerns about a proposal to build a new homeless shelter with correctional elements on wetlands.

Last month we had to temporarily close our Thrift Store because we lost two staff people at the same time and we were running low on donated clothing to give away. Fortunately, after we announced that we needed help, several people helped us to circulate our job listing and/or showed up with more than enough clothing to completely fill the racks at the thrift store. If you stop by the thrift store please help us welcome our two new staff members-- Emma Thompson and Chris Jarrett.

News coverage about the impact of the government shutdown on low income families led to a moving swell of support from people in our community for our two emergency food pantries. Some people showed up with food. Other people showed up with diapers and baby formula. Still other arrived at one of our food pantries and volunteered a few hours of their time. Our community is very lucky to have so many caring people who put their concern into action.

At a time when federal nutrition assistance programs were halted and many people were worried about how they were going to feed their children the caring team at the Caputo Foundation pledged to match donations to Crossroads Urban Center made between November 4, 2025 and December 2, 2025. We are very grateful for the Caputo family's decades of support and their dedication to making sure families in our community do not go hungry.

Donate at the cash register and you’ll help provide a turkey for a family in need this Thanksgiving! Turkeys will be delivered to the Crossroads Urban Center Thanksgiving Food Giveaway.

Next week, on November 26, we will be providing food to help prepare a Thanksgiving meal to more than 3,000 families. We would not be able to serve this many people without the hundreds of people who show up to volunteer. We are so grateful for everyone who helps with this important and positive event each year.

• During the past month several clergy, lay leaders and other concerned citizens involved with FACE Hunger and Homelessness have helped to draw attention to problems with a proposal to build a 1,300 bed shelter with correctional components on a site that includes wetlands and is 55 minutes away from the closest bus stop.
