As part of our transition process, the council has recently re-examined Mt. Tabor's statement of its values. We’ve had a statement of values for some time now, but few members seem to be aware of it. In practice, they have not had a role in the church's decision-making. Given the importance of self-reflection in our current time of transition, we thought this was a perfect time to look at our shared values with fresh eyes. Our hope is that this process will allow us to better understand where we are today. And we also hope that, beginning with our shared values, we will also be better able to hear the Holy Spirit guiding our hearts and our actions in the future.
We have used two particular sources to help us in this process. The first, of course, is scripture. Every value is biblically based and firmly rooted in God's word. And the second source has been all of you. Our members described what they valued most about Mt. Tabor during our transition process. The members of our Transition Team heard four things over and over. Above all else, we begin with a humble recognition of God's Grace. We Welcome all to share in this grace with us. We share this grace in fellowship through our Worship and Music. And fortified by our worship, we seek to share our joy in God's grace through Service to others.
The council will be presenting a more thorough look at the Values at the end of worship on Sunday, October 5th.
