Curious About Joy – A Women’s Christmas Retreat
Saturday, January 11, 2025
10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, Salt Lake City, UT
Dear Utah Conference Churches,
My name is DanaLee Simon and I am a Pastor in the UT Conference of ELCA Churches. I am leading a UT Conference Women’s Christmas Retreat on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church in Salt Lake City and would love for you to come.
Our theme, Curious About Joy, will be based on a resource by pastor, poet and author, Jan Richardson. I love her explanation of what a Women’s Christmas celebration is all about. “There is a custom, rooted in Ireland, of celebrating Epiphany (January 6, which brings the Christ-mas season to a close) as Women’s Christmas. (It) originated as a day when the women, who often carried the domestic responsibilities all year, took Epiphany as an occasion to celebrate together at the end of the holidays. . . , Whether your domestic commitments are many or few, Women’s Christmas offers an opportunity to pause and step back from whatever has kept you busy and hurried in the past weeks or months. As the Christmas season ends, this is an occasion both to celebrate with friends and also to spend time in reflection before diving into what this new year will hold.”
It is in this spirit that we will come together. We will begin by sharing brunch, and then dive more deeply into our theme, together, through music, conversations, sharing, poetry, and spiritual practices. I look forward to meeting you and connecting us all together in this fun and meaningful gathering.
The registration fee for this retreat is $25. Scholarships are available. Please let Pastor DanaLee know if you are in need of one. Please register and reserve your spot by e-mailing DanaLee and letting her know you will be attending. Include your name, phone number and congregation.
