Golden Celery 2022

Mount Tabor has been collecting food for Crossroads Urban Center for many years.  Did you know that Crossroads now has 2 food pantries?

Crossroad’s Emergency Food Pantries distributes food boxes and bags to hungry individuals.  They specialize in supporting infant needs with formula, diapers and baby food.  Food is available at both the downtown location (347 South 400 East) and the Westside location (1358 S. Indiana Ave).

Summer is a particularly lean time for food pantries across the state.  And with the cost of food, housing and gas rising dramatically of late, hungry people in our communities especially need our help this year.

Enter the Golden Celery contest for 2022.  Many of the faith communities in Salt Lake City have a “friendly” (?) competition each summer in July to help build up the supplies of Crossroads Food Pantries which are among the busiest in the state.

It’s been a few years since Mount Tabor brought home the trophy. (A huge ancient can of canned Celery that was actually donated to the pantry years ago.)

Please bring your non-perishable items to Mount Tabor when you come for Sunday Worship.  Every donation helps greatly; in a Loaves and Fishes kind of way.

If you have questions, please call Pierre Pearson at 801-463-1008 or Stephanie Wilson at 801-580-8320.

If you would like to donate a huge bag of rice or beans, that’s Great!  Each Congregation’s contribution is measured by weight.  The more poundage, the better!!  Just please divide the rice or beans In zip lock bags that contain 1 pound each.

Here are some of the items needed:

  • Baby formula
  • Beans (canned or dry)
  • Diapers
  • Fruit, canned
  • Juice
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Meat, canned
  • Milk, powdered

  • Pasta
  • Peanut butter
  • Rice
  • Soup, canned
  • Vegetables, canned
