From our Council president Sarah Lange:

In the past few days, Council has deliberated our response to the rapidly-evolving coronavirus outbreak. We believe that we are called in Christ to love our neighbors as ourselves. This most especially includes you, our nearest siblings in Christ.

We looked at the recommendations of the Utah State Department of Health, as announced by Gov. Herbert, to limit the size of any gatherings.

We considered Bishop Gonia’s recommendation that all Rocky Mountain Synod churches, regardless of size, suspend activities through the end of March, as well as the actions taken by other local faith communities in the city, including all the other ELCA congregations in Utah that are suspending their worship services.

Most importantly, we considered the possibility of unknowingly spreading the virus to members of our congregation who are, live with, or are in frequent contact with people who are at increased risk.

The council has agreed to follow the recommendations of the State and the RMS and are hereby cancelling all Mt. Tabor activities through the end of March.

At that time, the Council will again evaluate the situation based on the most recent updates from local, state, regional, and national authorities.

Pastor David will continue to be available as always through phone call, text, emails, and in-person visits. Please don't hesitate to contact him if you have any questions or concerns.

During this time, regular church administrative activities will continue approximately as normal, with additional precautions as necessary, including the option of working from home.

For those of you who typically give your offerings at worship each Sunday, you may consider one of the following options: (1) mail your offering to Mt. Tabor; (2) sign up to donate through Simply Giving, an automatic payment system (contact Pr. David or Brenda for more details); or (3) combining your offerings together in one big donation when we resume normal operations.

In his pastoral letter to all congregations in the Synod, Bishop Gonia said “Let me be clear: this time of social distancing – or better said, physical distancing – does NOT mean we are suspending being the Church! On the contrary, this means is that we become Church in new ways. It’s ironic but true that the best of who we are as Church has always flourished under adversity. How will this moment invite us to reframe who and why and how we are as Christ’s Body for the life of the world?

In the midst of it all, we will care for one another, we will pray for one another, and we will be Christ’s Church, Better Together.”

Yours in Christ,

Sarah Lange, Council president
