Faith & Poverty Day at the Utah Capitol

The 2019 session of the Utah Legislature begins at the end of January. The legislative session only lasts 45 days and so there is always the potential for a lot of good and/or bad things to happen very quickly. This year we know there is a risk that legislators will put limits on the Medicaid expansion initiative that voters approved last month. There is also a risk they will increase the sales tax on food. On the positive side, it is possible legislators will take big steps toward reducing child homelessness by including funding for an important housing bill and a proposal to improve outcomes for domestic violence survivors.

The Coalition of Religious Communities is working to highlight these key policies for low income families by organizing Faith & Poverty Day at the Utah Capitol from 10am to Noon, the first Thursday of the legislative session, January 31, 2019. The Faith & Poverty Day w organized at the beginning of the 2018 legislative session was attended by over 90 people from dozens of different faith communities. Together we drew attention to key poverty issues that might have otherwise been ignored. There is more at stake in 2019 and so we need more people like you to put this event in your calendar and invite a couple friends to come with you!

Pride Sunday Celebration is January 27th.  Our guest speaker will be Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski. Invite your friends!
