The Golden Celery Competition!

The Basics.

Donate  |  Count  |  Win!

The Golden Celery Competition occurs every July to benefit Crossroads Urban Center's 2 Food Pantries.  The competition pits faith communities from throughout Utah against one another in friendly rivalry to see who can donate the most pounds of food per attendee in the month of July!

The Why.

For Food Pantries across the nation, the summer months show a significant decrease in donations.   Unfortunately, this dip in donations does not correlate to the number of people using our services.  Rather, the number of people we serve increases in the summer.   Thanks to the Golden Celery, which last year yielded 23,000 pounds in donated food, we are able to keep up with this demand.

The Rules.

  1. Sign up with Crossroads Urban Center. Contact the Community Outreach Coordinator, Jess Roadman 801-364-7765 x110, Jessica@crossroadsurbancenter.org, or on the form to the right by end of day June 30.
  2. Take attendance of members every meeting during the month of July. We have large and small congregations that participate.  To ensure a fair shot at the win, donations are tallied per capita.  Submit attendance at month’s end to Jess.
  3. Collect food donations for the month of July. Starting on the 1st and ending on the 31st.  Last day for donation drop off is the 31st. Please note we will be closed July 4-5, 2019 and July 24, 2019.
  4. Drop off the donations to Crossroads.  347 South 400 East SLC Mon-Fri 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m, all month long. Make sure you tell the person who receives the food that you are donating for the Golden Celery Challenge. This is very important!!
